I am no military historian and will convey what I think I know. The Battle of the Philippine Sea (June 19-20, 1944) essentially ended Japan's ability to have a peer Navy to ours. The Japanese had a handful of Aircraft Carriers and we sunk 3 of them. They had very little Naval Air capacity which contributed to her inability to protect her fleets and attacking our fleets. That means we owned the sea and air. This was the beginning of the end for the Japanese Navy. The Japanese supply ships had no air protection and thus were easy to sink, leaving their army unsupported. This was the largest modern naval battle. The US had over 600 ships in the fray.

Wow! You're good! :)
I love history like this... especially when it has to do with structural engineering.

CSM Chuck Stafford - I only know a little, I need to read a little more. I always thought I would have more time when I retired, I don't know how I used to get stuff done when I was working. :)
