PO1 William "Chip" Nagel
..."“We’re not urging Americans not to honor this day — we’re asking people to honor Dr. King through action to protect the right to vote,” he said in a statement to the Washington Post.
And while the nation pauses to commemorate the country’s most prominent civil rights leader, Democratic lawmakers in Washington, advocates in Kansas City, and historians said the erosion of voting rights King fought against in his time is still a major concern.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s campaign to push new voter protections through Congress appears dormant for now. Senate Democrats failed last week to secure the votes needed to overturn the filibuster and pass legislation without GOP support.
In a phone call with KCUR last week, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Democrat from Kansas City, recalled a recent conversation with King’s eldest son.
“He said, ‘Mom and Dad would both turn over in their graves if they saw what was going on now,’” Cleaver said. “I think we are in trouble right now unless something should happen quickly to reverse … efforts to stop Americans from voting.”...

Lets take these one at a time.
1 laws that limit who can send advanced voting ballot applications to voters - Should only be the local clerks office...no one else to insure integrity in who they go to and how many. Example...my mother and father in law both got three each advanced mail in ballots...6 votes plus them voting in person which totals 8 votes 6 of which shouldn't be counted. They threw away the other mail ins due to their integrity but how many of those were out there and counted? It needs to be limited to who can track update, and send to ensure only one goes out and is counted.
2. Restrict assistance in returning a mail ballot...only the individual voting should be able to return it in a prepaid addressed envelope...not just dropped off by anyone.
3. Impose stricter signature requirements for mail ballots...why not. If you want to vote, sign for it. You have to sign for your pay, make a deposit or a withdrawal, buy a car, buy a gun, use a credit card so why not sign for the most sacred right we have in this nation...to vote.
4. Absentee voters must provide a reason why they can’t vote in person...why not? You have to provide a reason why you aren't at work?
5. Voter ID...you have to show you ID for almost damn near everything in this world. Why not for the most sacred thing we hold dear to our republic...voting. You know why folks are against this...they can claim any name on that roll and vote...with an ID you have to match up to make it happen.
