The religious right has sacrificed their humanity and it will not be forgotten. We will continue to fight against this.

The law can be very cruel to some women.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Bernie doesn't have a problem with allowing a fetus to enslave a woman for nine months. He's OK with that because it fits his religious view, and screw anyone who has different views. People like him have no conscience, no compassion, and don't care if they violate someone's constitutional rights, so long as their religious beliefs are enforced on others.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Sir you are projecting your beliefs onto others. What part of killing do you enjoy? It is killing you realize. Killing helpless babies is disgusting to me personally. While I am a practicing Catholic, I say killing babies is wrong, just like killing anyone is wrong. This is not a religious thing. I can say you have no compassion for babies and sense of humanity in this matter for all the death created by some people who are just trying to make a political statement with the vast majority having no standing in the issue. You go overboard when you attack me personally and then curse (“You f@ckers make me sick”) at me; I vote you down for this. Where is our leadership and rules? It appears rules are only to be used against Conservatives. You cannot carry on a civil conversation so I must say goodbye.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Screw Bernie. He's accusing you of supporting the killing of babies, which is BS. A baby has already been born. He's perfectly fine with subjugating women however.

..."Clinics in nearby states are stretched thin
Clinics across the region say they're struggling to accommodate the surge in demand from patients from Texas, the nation's second-most-populous state. And they're fearful that many more states could implement similar laws if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns decades of precedent guaranteeing abortion rights.

"Texas is a very large state. So you have numerous people trying to get care elsewhere," says Kari White, a sociologist at the University of Texas at Austin. She has been researching patients who've left Texas for abortions since SB 8 took effect.

A Louisiana clinic struggles to absorb the surge created by Texas' new abortion law
"There are not very many clinics in the states that surround Texas," she says. "And they're already serving the patients that live in that state, as well as sometimes in neighboring states."

White says the supply-and-demand problem is only likely to get worse. A major abortion case currently before the Supreme Court could overturn the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1973, opening the door to many more restrictions around the country. The Mississippi law at the center of the current case would ban most abortions after 15 weeks — four weeks earlier than when Anna was searching for an appointment in a neighboring state.

"People may not be able to go to Oklahoma or Louisiana four months from now because care may not be available in those states either," White says.

Lawmakers in states such as Oklahoma, Florida and Ohio are sponsoring bills modeled after the one in Texas. Meanwhile, states including California and Vermont are taking steps to expand abortion access, hoping to increase their ability to take in patients like Anna from around the country.

Since her ordeal, Anna says she fears for the lives of other women.

"I've never in my life felt like I didn't matter, that my life was expendable," she says, but "I did in that moment."

She's especially worried about families without the resources to travel long distances for potentially lifesaving treatment.

"I have a savings account and a job that I could have made this happen for myself," she says. "There's plenty of other people on this planet with uteruses who could not have done that. And what would they have done? Would they have just died? I think about that all the time."...
