The article is right, and it's not the first time that it has come up. There were several thousand Americans who fought for Israeli independence in 1948-49. The first IDF general was an American, a USMA grad and US Army colonel and lawyer who managed to jump with the 101st into Normandy without any parachute training. He was killed in Israeli, and is buried at West Point.
