Lt Col Charlie Brown I don't see this going over good. Personally I would be eating at home more. We might go out once every two weeks as it is now. With this it would go down to maybe once a month.

If a restaurant charges me a 15% equity charge, my tip will no longer start at 20%, it will now start at 5%.

Interesting for sure. When I was a teen, I worked at Gino's, which was an east coast fast food that sold KFC, burgers, and fries. They used that tip loophole to pay us less than minimum wage, even though you don't get tips at a place like that. I also worked at a restaurant as a dishwasher and they did the same thing to me, and I never had any tips shared, which is what they promised in exchange for my $1.16 per hour rate in 1975. So I have always understood how bad people get paid in those jobs. For a good portion of my life, I tipped 15% unless I had really bad service, and a few years ago, I moved it up to 20%. Someones race has never come into play in that, but I guess some people don't have my view on life, that skin color is no different than hair color, or eye color, and has nothing to do with someones worth or character. That being said, if I go to a place, which I have, and they put a mandatory 15% tip, or as I saw once, 12.5% on my bill, I am done with tipping. If you force me to tip a certain amount, that's all you get. Where it gets hard is places like Golden Corral, when its a buffet, but someone brings you a drink. Since the pandemic, I am more likely to tip more for those jobs as they had to work, while others sat at home. But whats the right thing there? My wife and I spend our weekends in Delaware except during really cold weather. We bought a fixer upper 2 years ago and its my hobby on weekends now. We used to eat out at least once every weekend, but rarely do now, because of the costs increases to eat out. In the end, when you say your going to pay $15-$18 per hour for help, it either gets paid in menu price increases, or mandatory surcharges. If I owned a place, I would certainly not tell my customers they are racist tippers. I would simply say this is what we have to charge for things now, because of what we have to pay to get help. But maybe in that area, it makes you popular to do that and say that kind of stuff.

We tip 20% unless you are an unresponsive screw up...and I don't care what you look like (race, creed, etc) as long as you are clean and polite. And I am polite to you as well; I consider it my job as the customer.
