Gotta remember that one!

"Leave the gun ... Take the cannoli."
A comment from "The Godfather" on the fragility of the excuse that gun registration is a "crime-fighting tool". Who is going to use a gun registered in his name in a crime? No need for that, when there is a black market for guns and all sorts of "illegal" stuff. Only the mentally deficient criminals would keep possession of a gun they fired in a crime. Why keep some evidence that can tie you to a murder? Cannoli makes a lot more sense.

This thread is nonsense. Preventing the bad guys from getting guns is of prime importance.

It's getting late and I needed a good laugh before shutting down the old PC. Thanks. Now, think about this as you get ready for bed. What part of this - the anti-gun narrative, the gun control laws, all the infringements on the right to keep and bear arms - ever kept the bad guys from getting guns? Look at those places where the narrative is spoken most forcefully. Where gun laws are as numerous as blades of grass. Where good guys are assaulted by the greatest number of infringements. Having a hard time finding such places? Well, just look at all those big cities in America, the ones where the radical left of the Democratic party dominate politics...

CPT Jack Durish - I believe the solution is stronger enforcement of laws, not more firearms.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Nobody says more firearms is the solution to anything, at least not in this discussion thread.

Ghost guns are unserialized and untraceable firearms that can be bought online and assembled at home. They are often sold through "ghost gun kits," which include all of the parts and often the equipment necessary to build these weapons at home. These kits are widely available and can be purchased by anyone, including prohibited purchasers, domestic abusers, and gun traffickers — without a background check. As these kits and guns are sold at gun shows and online every day throughout the country, they undermine all of the life-saving policies that state legislatures have fought so hard to put in place.

Ghost guns are:
Designed to avoid all gun laws
Untraceable and unserialized
Available to buy without a background check
This criteria and lack of federal regulation is exactly why ghost guns are a growing weapon of choice among people who are legally prohibited from buying guns.
IT’S SIMPLE: IF YOU CAN’T PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK, YOU SHOULDN’T BE ABLE TO BUILD A GUN IN YOUR BASEMENT.

If you can't pass a background check, you shouldn't be able to buy a kit that allows you to make a gun. But if you can pass a background check, why should you not be allowed to make a gun in your basement? If you become a suspect in a firearm crime and have applied for a background check to purchase a firearm kit, shouldn't a judge be able to order that you produce said DIY firearm for police evidentiary examination? The simpler solution, to me, is to require a background check to purchase such a kit.

When a projectile is fired from a firearm and then removed from the body of a victim or from the crime scene, how does the serial number of the firearm attach to the bullet and lead back to the firearm? If the firearm has been used in a previous crime and identified, why is it back in service?

Maj John Bell - I agree about the background check for a buyer, of any firearm.
