Colorado Springs airport resumes inbound flights as wildfire burns in city

Wind-driven fires in Colorado Springs on Thursday destroyed eight mobile homes, led to the evacuation of 1,000 people in a different neighborhood, and prompted officials to evacuate the airport before later resuming inbound flights.
All outbound flights from the Colorado Springs airport were canceled about 7 p.m., according to airport officials. People at the airport were told to leave about 6:40 p.m., and inbound flights were canceled about 5:30 p.m.
About 7:55 p.m., inbound flight resumed, according to airport officials.

With the way the city has allowed developers to build single and multi-family residences around the airport it's a wonder the airport is still in operation... Ever wonder why Peterson AFB only has a Reserve Squadron stationed here??? When I was first stationed here in '84 didn't Pet. AFB have a MAC squadron here, or was it a SAC base, can't remember, but I do recall viewing a number of military aircraft flying in and out of Pete almost daily,,, and I understand the meaning of "The needs of the Militaru" as balanced by politics and directives of the DOD.
