President Joe Biden signed the Keep Kids Fed Act on Saturday morning, extending partial school meal flexibilities through the next school year five days before they were set to expire.
Schools have felt the strain of rising food, gas and labor costs. Waivers passed by Congress at the start of the pandemic gave relief from regulations that monitor how, when and who gets school meals.
Congress couldn't reach a deal in time to include an extension of the waivers in the budget signed by President Biden in March after Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell pushed against the extension.

SMH! I used to work 3 jobs, just to make my rent, utilities, groceries & gas. One of these jobs was a convince store cashier. Adults would send in all their kids with $1.00 or $5.00 food stamps to buy candy. I would generally make change w/ more stamps, but mostly, I didn't have stamps ,so I had to give cash back. This irritated me a lot, because I knew the parents wanted the cash for cigs or beer and HHS didn't care!
