Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Day 2 Backlog Edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). We start with July 16th's "Tycho and Clavius at Dawn." A lunar day is roughly 29 1/2 Earth days, so a lunar dawn occurs once a month. In this image, Dawn comes to the lunar craters Tycho (below and left of center) and Clavius (above Tycho; the larger crater with what appear to be arcs in its center). Those arcs are actually crater walls formed by subsequent impacts that occurred after the impact that produced Clavius. The Sun is off camera to the right.

Enlarge that pic and it is like being there. Just imagine what a pic of the same would look like if taken by the $10 billion Webb. BTW the photos coming back are astronomical taking us back in time some 13.8 billion years to, perhaps, the Big Bang. Looking forward to some of your posts on those!
