During my last year in London (I'd returned in '74-'75 after my first year in the USA to study for and sit for my 11 "O" Level subject examinations at Selhurst), my mum and I were in the City of London for lunch one day and stopped in at the HMV store to check out the music. She bought a Jim Reeves album, and we continued browsing albums. Then a quiet voice behind us said "You might check out this album. I hear the main track is a corker." We turned to see Joe Cocker smiling at us, holding his new album, "I Can Stand a Little Rain." Of course, we were gobsmacked, and I picked up the album from the display. Joe then asked my mum her name, and he autographed it "Nice meeting you and your son, Joyce. I hope you enjoy this! --Joe".
She treasured that album for the rest of her life. My eldest sister scarpered off with it after our mum died. One day I shall steal it from her.
