Some people learn how to handle and carry guns from TV and movies. They put a gun in their waistband or pocket, not understanding that it isn't secure or safe.
Others try to shoot "gangster style", one handed with it tilted sideways.
That is why organizations such as the NRA with its gun handling classes or local instructors are so important for those who haven't had a lot of hands on training with guns.

I know Lovejoy well so I am not surprised by this story. If you are going to carry a firearm you need a holster that covers the trigger and is of good quality and retention. Carrying without a holster in ones waistband is stupid and dangerous, glad they arrested him.
