Cash had a number of problems physically caused by his raucous earlier life of alcohol and drugs. Those problems were only exacerbated by being diabetic. The diabetes also brought on neuropathy in his hands. As he mentioned, the earlier death of June Carter Cash was a huge loss for Johnny since she was a supporter through his many trails of life
