I made the mistake (in my case) of retiring early. I was tired of being in management for about 40 years. Then the tech bubble burst and we had lost 40% of what we had in reserve for our retirement. I went back to work and worked another 14 years. Best to retire with a cushion that allows for security after a large loss. We have that now

LTC Eugene Chu I retired 17 years ago. I had a plan... but God had a better plan... as always. He also had a plan that included me going in prisons, jails, & working with individuals with addiction issues. God continues to provide for all our needs... and some of our wants.

Good reminder. I would add that most of us will be retired a lot longer than we expected. Also, most of the old moss backs we know will tell you that, at least for the first several years, their spending exceeds that 80% target. By a lot.
