When I was stationed at Stewart in the early 80's, I was in the 2/19 Inf (M), and we were known as "The rock of Chickamauga". IIRC every 2-3 months there would be a staff ride to the battlefield that anyone could go on. When ever a new 2lt came to the Battalion he would have to wear a real civil war Infantry insignia horn around his waist, when ever we were in garrison. He had to keep it clean and polished. He couldn't give it up until another brand new 2lt reported in. If the LT was in our Platoon we always tried to somehow get it dirty, and if he would show up to a formation w/o it we'd get on him for not having it.

Like I keep saying to LTC Stephen Ford, Bragg was just not the guy you wanted in charge of fighting units.

Maybe that's part of the reason the base has so many issues...they could rename that one

Lt Col Charlie Brown You could be right.

Both sides in the war had great leaders, and both sides had bad leaders. Unfortunately, the bad one seem to get remembered more.

Rosecrans was one of the good ones. I only knew him from the coastal artillery fort and military cemetary bearing his name. No one ever speaks of his actions.
