I loved Charles Bronson movies. The Mechanic, The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape, and Death Wish. His service added authenticity to his war movie roles. He's one of only a few B29 crew members I've ever read about to receive the Purple Heart. I'm not talking about downed crews either.

Must've been caused by shrapnel from a flak burst. A rare event indeed for B-29s!

He's always been one of my favorites. But then again, almost every U.S. military veteran who became an actor has turned out to be one of my favorites. Something that always struck me as curious, is how big that number of people/actors/veterans really is, as well as several of the names on the list whom you'd never guess in a million years is/was a veteran. Example: "Ice T"...who was in the Army. Or the painter with the fuzzball hair: Bob Ross. Or sexologist: "Dr. Ruth", who, (believe it or not), was a sniper for Israel. Comedian, Don Rickles. "MC Hammer" was in the Navy. Mel Brooks...who was not only in the Army in WW II, but he was there in the freezing cold at the "Battle of the Bulge". Musician / guitar expert: Jimmy Hendrix. Comedian, Drew Karey is a US Marine. Another comedian very few people would ever guess was a Marine: Johnathan Winters. I mean, the list just goes on, and on, and on....
