If the definition of Fascism means, "a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people, and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government." Does it mean the term fascism is used out of context or does the definition of Fascism take on a personal meaning from the orator?

@SPC Jeff Daley, PhD I found this link on Fascism. It's 43 minutes long but well worth the time. I've found RP members have a variety of definitions about what Fascism is. Hope this answers your question.

SGT (Join to see) - The link did not appear in your response. For my own edification, I would be curious to see the derivatives that created the result.

Sources that I commonly use for definitions, and for this term were the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Dictionary.com, Encyclopedia, and other standard documents worldwide. Fascism was most successful in Italy and Germany following WWI.

I understand that the woke left wants to change the meaning of words or remove terms and replace them to meet their thoughts and aspirations for our country - I'm old fashion in believing the documents considered as the standard of practice are the better choice. Of course, that's my personal opinion and we all have one of those.

SPC Jeff Daley, PhD - I'll see if I can send you the Fascism video direct... not sure if I can since we've never Connected. I believe your sources are probably the best available. The Fascism video identifies Italy & Germany as you mentioned. I have to admit I got a chuckle about the "woke left" wanting to change the meaning... the left believe it's the Right that is doing that. I received a reply from MAJ Karl Swenson regarding the definition of "Woke" that I'm including here.

SGT Charlie Lee - I think I know the definition of "woke." However, it appears that the definition has flip-flopped in the past few years. In 2017, "woke" was defined by Merriam-Webster as "aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)." The Oxford dictionary adopted it the same year, defining it as "originally: well-informed, up-to-date." But now it seems that the conservatives have changed the meaning to an idea or someone who is more intolerant of conservative beliefs and values.
So, the reason I asked SPC Lyle Montgomery for his definition of "woke" was to see if he is simply jumping on a bandwagon of conservative speak or if he truly understands. But then, we can make our own assumptions, especially given the definition of Whataboutism offered just above (or below, depending on where the electronic editor decides) graciously provided by Capt Gregory Prickett. "Oh yeah? So what about this, or what about that?" Reminds me of a playground argument...

"Woke" is an Old, Old Term in the "Ethnic" Community, Not Much in Use Anymore, Now the Reich Wing Finally have Heard of It? Damn They're Slow! It was used to speak of How Historically Screwed People of Color have been. The Reich Wing is still fighting the Battles of the 60's using Terms from the 60's. I Guess they Think they Can't be Called Racist since they are Not Using the N Word Anymore. It doesn't take Much Though to Figure Out where this is Coming From!” (End of Maj Karl's comments). I trust his judgement.

If you're interested in being a Contact send me a request... if not that's fine... we can still communicate on Threads as we are now. Thanks for the civil discussion... I know our views differ on the political spectrum, but you have always been respectful in your comments to me & others. I normally respond in-kind... then if they continue to be disrespectful, I block them. I don't let anyone use my Threads for their hatred or lies... they can start their own threads for that.

SGT (Join to see) - Thanks for the link to the article. I concur with @MAJ Karl Swenson as the first known use of woke was circa 1948, with the meaning defined as, "aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)"

Our personal longevity has seen some definitions of words modified officially, and others added when terms became universal in nature. A couple that I found interesting that found their way into the dictionaries in 2022, is whataboutism and fluffernutter. Who knew it was to be?
