THIS IS HUGE - "Recent firearm industry retail data revealed first-time gun buyers especially, totaling more than 5.4 million in 2021 and 8.4 million in 2020, are seeking training opportunities with their new purchases...According to the NSSF survey, about 13.8 million gun purchasers in 2020 and 2021 were first time gun buyers.
"The total number of firearms sold in California with background checks in 2020 was 1,165,309. As of March 12, 2021, the total number of firearms sold in California with background checks in 2021 was 180,058. These figures account for all firearm sales conducted through FFLs in the state, including private-party transactions, consignments, and pawn sales.
'Based on these parameters, approximately 369,511 individuals purchased a firearm in California who had not previously submitted a DROS application to the Department prior to January 1, 2020. As of March 12, 2021, approximately 42,548 individuals purchased a firearm who had not previously submitted a DROS application to the Department prior to January 1, 2021.....Of the guns purchased in all of 2020 in California, about 32% were by new gun buyers. Of the guns purchased up until March of 2021, about 24% were new gun buyers.
[Keep in mind,] "Gun sales are more difficult for a first-time buyer in California than for most other states. This might discourage prospective gun owners from buying the first gun in California."
MY TAKE: The general population of America is becoming increasingly armed and this indicates to me they have little faith in all levels of government for their protection. They are also not buying the lies and gaslighting being done by the party in power, and are taking advantage of their 2A rights while they still have them.
WHAT I AM DOING: I am buying up ammo for the firearms I now have and looking for good deals on some of the rifles and pistols I think I should have if SHTF. I am also getting to know my neighbors and hopefully we can organize for mutual protection.

I have taken 2 acquaintances to the gun range in the last 18 months. They had bought their first guns, one semiauto pistol and one revolver, but did not know how to use them. In both cases about 2 hours at the range to get them used to operating the gun SAFELY followed by an hour at the picnic tables nearby to learn teardown, cleaning, and reassembly. Both bought their firearm for personal protection, citing the breakdown of law and order in the wake of the Floyd killing and the increasing crime related to illicit drug use and illegal immigration. Both Democrats, by the way. Scared Democrats who wanted an old conservative to show them how to use their guns.

I’m a range safety officer at a local indoor gun range. During the first half of the pandemic and rioting that went on, there was not a handgun in the display cases that wasn’t snatched up by some citizen who was terrified that local government could not protect them. As soon as new handguns were put into the cases, they were immediately purchased by panicked people who realized that the police couldn’t be there until things were over. I would have groups of 3-4 show up with a new gun, ammo, and no clue which end the pointy things came out of. I spent hours giving safety and gun handling training to these new owners, encouraging them the take some more training classes because with a range full of shooters, my ability to supervise them and train them was rudimentary at best. Typically, there were several groups of newbies needing to be watched so my time was split between multiple bays of shooters. The new shooters represented a wide cross section of the populace with all races and ages represented and seemed simply concerned for their safety and the protection of their families. I can attest to the increased number of new gun owners and I hope they took my advice and got additional training and found ways of securing their new handguns from unauthorized users.
