Damn! Screaming is a tool used, very successfully I will say, in the Marine Corps' boot camp. Swearing was outlawed either in the late 70s or early 80s. Physical contact at about the same time. And screaming replicates the chaos of the battlefield for the poor kids who have never experienced anything worse than losing the character in Halo. Over the 90ish days of boot camp the screaming tapers off until it is a distant memory.
I fear this is the wrong direction - but it does stay in line with safe spaces, pronouns and not hurting the feelings of the privates...

I don’t know when it was outlawed in basic but I can guarantee you it was done when I was a drill sergeant beginning 1981 until nd of 1983.

1SG Frank Boynton I use to have a saying. I can fix stupid, but it’s going to hurt. Many a trainee lost their helmet liner when they screwed up, but it fixed stupid many times.

1SG Frank Boynton - I was a college walk on for NROTC at the UofW in 1981 and did a spring tour of Camp Pendleton, El Toro and MCRD San Diego. This is where I learned about the roles DIs would be in during a platoons training. Father, hammer & prac.
I did bootcamp in 1984. When our DIs were introduced to us part of their speech included the no touch and no swear rules they were under. So maybe it was brand new in '84. But I will tell you this, they could swear very creatively without uttering a single swear word.
And I am talking strictly Marine Corps bootcamp. I have no idea what the rules for Drill Sergeants were for the Army.
