Many of us veterans would not enlist under the current military "culture" The wokeness has turned the potential recruits against military service and the small minority they are catering to isn't enough to fill the ranks.

Hmm, what's missing from this op-ed. There's the huge elephant in the room. This administration from SECDEF to the individual Service Chiefs, and their Senior Enlisted Advisors, have through their words and actions sent a message to a segment of the population that they are not wanted. That segment provides the largest pool of enlisted to not just the Army, but all branches.
In addition, we have a JCS who has openly admitted to contacting the presumptive enemy of our nation with the intent of telling his counterpart that he would be informed prior to actions being taken by our forces. He also actively conducted end arounds of presidential authority. That doesn't and shouldn't instill confidence of future possible enlistees.
Now I can tell you that I didn't enlist because I cared who was SECDEF, JCS, or Service chief, but I can tell you that if this was the climate back then, I would have never entered a recruiting office.

I'm in with that too. People enlist knowing it is necessary to trust government which is at the top of the chain of command. When individual civilians are not doing their jobs of adequately monitoring, and making good cases of advising in the numbers necessary, then government listens more closely to lobbies that represent for-profit industries.
We all know the defense budget is good for industry and stock holders though the way it trickles down to SMs does not necessarily fill the needs of some or all of the branches.
Disinterest from potential recruits may be due to them being woke enough to have informed opinions about the potential undesirable influence of volatile political issues on the military, and our nations, than many of us were aware of in the past.

Good article. The current military leadership have left those with the warrior spirit we need behind in favor of Woke standards. We aren't going to win many wars with Woke Standards. MHO
