Not only that, but don't put troops Within 2 km or more of an ammunition dump. I was talking to a retired Canadian Soldier today and he said that the initial blast didn't kill the soldiers but the secondary explosions from the ammunition dump right next door did. Hate to say it, but we've done it too, and it was against orders as well.

During OIF, there were many servicemembers that had cell phones with them while we were conducting offensive operations. One of key warnings we (the RCERT and TNOC) gave to units was that the phones could be located by DF and/or the communications were unsecure and could be intercepted.

If we were against a near-peer adversary, we might have been in a world of hurt.
