Wow. It must be a serious problem for some state guard unit to have a battalion commander who only gets to wear a gold oak leaf while the Army figures out whether they were qualified or just picked for political reasons. After all, no active army battalion has ever been commander by a Major waiting to get promoted to LTC.

It's a good thing that Congress took time to fix this because it is obviously the most serious problem facing the US military today.

Huh? In 1967 4/12 Inf Bn CO wounded and evacuated and S-3 became CO. Promoted to LTC pretty quickly, but not know if a Brevet promotion. In infantry, senior major is S-3 as he is fwd and knows tactical situation. Junior Major in rear with the gear sending up beans and bullets. Not know if he was waiting to get promoted, but Majors do command Bns. Same-Same 1LT company COs, I offer 1LT Collins in 3rd battle of Pork Chop.

MAJ Ronnie Reams - Did I really need to bracket my comment with [Sarcasm ON] and [Sarcasm OFF]?
