Why 34? Why not 35, or 40, or even 50???

I always thought the Maximum years someone could serve was in a way non productive as long as they were effective at their job.

It's an up or out system since there are a maximum number of people allowed to serve in each rank as well as a maximum overall. If people don't get out or retire, others can't be promoted. This is an indication that we have a shortage of personnel

Isn't it interesting that we have age restrictions on many institutions and companies yet we have none for our politicians in Washington - At 89, Feinstein is the oldest sitting U.S. senator and member of Congress. In March 2021, she became the longest-serving U.S. senator from California, surpassing Hiram Johnson. Upon the death of Don Young, she became the oldest sitting member of Congress. We currently have several over the age of 80 and a few without their fair share of grey matter.

Maj Robert Thornton - Agreed, however it will probably have to be driven by two-thirds of the States requesting the change by a convention called for that purpose. I just don't see both houses voting for term limits. However, the House can vote for increase and salaries but to their credit have not done so since 2010 and the auto increases kicked-in. The can also control their MRA (expense account) in 2022, each Member’s MRA was increased by 21%. In 2022, MRAs ranged from $1,751,880 to $1,967,213, with an average of $1,826,590. Our tax dollars at work from the foxes in the hen house.
