It remains to be seen how this thing works out. I agree with the assessment that we are digging ourselves a deeper and deeper hole financially. Arguing about whether or not we will pay for debts we have already incurred should not exist. We took on the commitments. We should honor them. The responsibility lies with Congress who controls the purse strings and makes the decisions to spend our money. The place Congress should show its displeasure is when the budgeting is being done. The idea of tacking on some project that few want in order to get a vote is the responsibility of Congress and should not happen. The problem is one they created. They, Congress, need to be less profligate.

Social Security may have a problem but it is not the problem. As long as there are workers paying into Social Security, it will never go bankrupt. Distributions will eventually have to be cut unless some action is taken to prevent it, but it is self funded and is not contributing to our deficit.
