PO1 William "Chip" Nagel it's a damn shame anyone would need training on how to deal with law enforcement.

Having been a police officer for some 26 years, I had only one problem with a motorist during a traffic stop! What I see in the news today is MOTORISTS instigating problems by being combative toward the police officer. Or if the situation calls for taking someone out of their car, and into custody, it is usually the offender who causes this own problems. I would have to say that most police officers on the job today, have been trained in using proper courtesy towards the public. When I say take someone out of their car, that is asking them to step out of the car, NOT by taking them out of the car through the vent window!
The lowered voice also works when responding to a domestic dispute! One of the combatants will always be screaming at the top of their voice. I found, talking in a much quieter voice, sooner or later, they are going to want to know what you are saying and will be quiet! And let you speak!

SPC Thomas Lansing - Thanks for your comments... in no way was I putting "every" Police officer in this category... I have family in that occupation. Hopefully most P.O.'s handle situations as you did... & you're to be commended for that.

SGT (Join to see) - Thank you for your compliments. Like you, I don't put every officer in the same catagory! I have known of some cops who were brought up in what I call the "Old School of Police Training" from around the country. Be as rough and tumble as you can be. I was just taught that as my mother put it, "You catch more flys with honey than with salt water!" and live by the golden rule, "Do onto others as you would have them do unto you!"

Very sad situation, a local Sr. Center, 95% white, had a recent session on avoiding negative Police interactions.
