The Train movie: WWII true story behind Burt Lancaster’s action epic

For those of you in Canada, this is free on Roku TV. It may be the same in the USA and abroad.

This is based on the Germans wanting to steal works of art from France and take it to Germany while the Germans were retreating and starting to move out of Paris. This was supposed to be in August of 1944.

This movie is pretty good and it's a lot better than the trailer shows.

One of the German actors I saw him in the movie The Longest Day as well as in the movie The Battle of the Bulge.

This is the last big black and white epic war movie. They used over 20 French locomotives. They had real train collisions done for the movie and the American bombers bombing the railway yard looked realistic and the French Railway wanted it destroyed anyway but they didn't have the money so this movie actually facilitated demolition.

I can't believe I didn't see this movie growing up.

This movie is over 2 hours long and the attention to detail and acting is excellent.

I'm sure the Europeans were going to diesel locomotives. Even though there are still some left in Bosnia Herzegovina, the Americans and the Canadians phased out steam locomotives by 1960 so I'm sure the French locomotives were Surplus and were able to be destroyed for this movie.
