I saw a Vulcan bomber for real when I was a kid at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. This was in the mid-1970s and that jet was so freaking loud!

Ran into some Vulcans on Midway Island in 1970. Neat aircraft, they had a distinctive engine howl.

They actually had one flying for historical purposes until a few years ago. Just got too expensive to maintain but at least this is a swan song modern video of the famous British bomber seen in the James Bond movie and the unexpected hero of the Falkland Islands war.

LTC (Join to see) The Vulcan and B-58 were of the same era and tactical mindset. Both great aircraft but situations and defenses overcame their effectiveness. When I first went to B-52s in early 70s, there were a few crew members in our squadron who had come fron B-58s. They loved the aircraft but it just could no longer accomplish what the SAC mission had become.

LTC (Join to see) Exactly, and for the same reasons. High speed, high altitude became obsolete due to Soviet SAM advances. Still is in contested airspace for that matter.
