Indeed! And a first shirt at that! By 1970 you almost never saw a 1SG in the field. . . .

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. - Romans 8:5 NIV Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Each day, I seek to be an example of God’s light and love. Make sure you know the real motives behind why you work so hard in your business. Who are you glorifying? Money isn’t everything. Focus on what is really important in life.

Thanks Dale for posting about another hero of the Vietnam war David McNerney went above and beyond his duty. A lot of young kids know little or nothing about the Vietnam war. Some call it a conflict, but to us who served there, it was definately a war. A lot of Vietnam vets are passing on to eternity. God Bless them all. I was a kid of 18 when I served in 69-71 and now I'm an old man in my 70's. I hope that history is kind to all of us old vets. It sure wasn't kind in the early years.

No, it wasn't--and it's less so now. I enlisted at 18 in '69--an infantry, Vietnam volunteer. My recruiter actually tried to talk me out of it! He had other quotas to fill and the draft provided more than enough grunts. After sending me to Oakland for the ASVAB, he tried even harder to get me into another specialty. My GT score was 138. When I said no, he leaned back in his chair and said, "They taught me in recruiting school that if someone throws you the ball, you better catch it! Okay. If you wanna go infantry and go to 'Nam, be my guest--but don't you EVER tell anyone your recruiter forced you to do it!" . . .
