Gov. Beshear signs Kentucky medical cannabis bill into law

Kentucky will soon join 37 other states that allow cannabis to be prescribed for medical use.
Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear signed a medical cannabis bill Friday morning, the day after the measure passed out of the Republican-led legislature.
Senate Bill 47 allows Kentuckians with conditions like cancer, chronic pain, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and chronic nausea to qualify for medical cannabis. It also leaves the door open for the University of Kentucky’s Cannabis Research Center to identify other qualifying conditions.
The policy doesn’t go into effect until 2025, and Kentuckians won’t be allowed to smoke cannabis. Vaping, edibles and other cannabis products like topical ointments will be allowed.
During a press conference Friday, Beshear said people with serious medical conditions should be able to use the drug.

In a tweet Thursday, Beshear cheered the passage of HB 551, noting that he signed an executive order last year to help some individuals with certified medical conditions avoid prosecution for possessing and using marijuana — partly out of frustration with the legislature and as an incentive for them to pass it into law.
"Today the General Assembly finally took action and passed a bill to legalize medical cannabis – something the majority of Kentuckians support," Beshear wrote. "I am thankful this progress has been made, and I will proudly sign this bill into law tomorrow."
In the signing ceremony in the Capitol rotunda Friday morning, Beshear and Republican legislators spoke about the historic nature of the moment and praised each other for pushing it into law — celebrating the fact that thousands who are in pain and suffering will be helped.
Nearly choking up, Nemes said "there are thousands and thousands of Kentuckians who just want to be and want to feel better, and this will help them with that."

Thank you for the news share shipmate PO1 William "Chip" Nagel , my PCP thought about prescribing it to me, till she looked at the meds that I have to take, and decided against it, she's going to let me continue on with my brand of therapy for my PTSD.
