PO1 William "Chip" Nagel If you will, let me weigh in on this as a high school teacher.
1) I don't believe teachers should be carrying weapons. Most will never be qualified to react according to an emergency situation and there is a real possibility that an innocent person will be seriously injured or even killed.
2) It would be too easy for a group of students to be waiting around the corner as you enter a hallway and jump a teacher to get the weapon and go on a killing spree. Sure, there may only be a few rounds of ammo in that gun but that is a few students who could get injured or killed needlessly.
3) If it gets to the point where I need a gun in school to protect my students and myself, I don't want to teach any longer and I believe this is most likely the consensus of most of my colleagues.

I mean... I'm a teacher too. If they want to arm me and pay me more for it, sure, I'll carry.

There are upwards of 3.5 million public school teachers in ~115,000 schools K--12 in the USA. How many of them would you arm? All of them?? Half? Only those willing? Weapons, ammunition training - so, maybe a $2-3 billion dollar effort, just to get started. Do local school district raise that money? Where do all these teachers train on weapons, and how often?? Are they deputized into law enforcement? After all - your proposition to these educators is this - they are going to be responsible for using deadly force, when required. Is that the recruiting pitch??
