Canada and Russia have the biggest coastlines in the world.

Canada has 1/10 of population of the USA they have 68,000 active duty which would be the equivalent of 680,000 based on the population of the US.

The reserve component is 27,000 strong so it would be equivalent of 270,000 if it were based on the US population.

On paper, we have 1.3 million active components and 800,000 reserves and National Guard combined but you know the numbers are probably way less than this.

As you can see, the Canadian forces are a lot smaller than ours and they do not have 100% strength either.

Canada does send troops on a rotational basis to Latvia. Some of you here I know have gone to the exercise called Maple Resolve which sends up to 700 soldiers on a rotational basis to Latvia as a tripwire in its NATO commitment to protect that Baltic state that is bordered by belligerent Russia.

Canadian Forces Base Wainwright is more like a prairie Fort Irwin. You could have Brigade on Brigade exercises on this base. The Canadians do the best they can with what they have.
