The only businesses that are upset are the ones that exploit illegals for labor and I have no sympathy for them. Since apparently NPR hasn't been to Florida, the Majority of the Latino community in Florida are Cuban or Puerto Rican, the former here legally and largely US Citizens (my best man is one of the original Castro Refugees) and the latter are US Citizens. I haven't found any great love for illegal hispanics in either community.
Let's quit changing the language to make things look better for one side. You are either a legal immigrant that went through the process to enter the country under one of the legal Visa programs, or you are breaking the law and you are an illegal alien.
I despise the Democratic Party because the new Progressives have just thrown the Working Class under the bus of whatever popular new group is the cause of the day.

Agree. Sounds like the main argument is that if people follow the law then it will impact on people that don't follow the law.

Samuel Vilchez Santiago basically said (with nicer words) - if you don't let businesses use the cheaply paid illegal immigrants, then it will have a really big impact on our economy and their ability to create jobs.

Typical argument coming from the left - We only follow the laws we want to follow. Those gestapo laws that don't let me do what I want are wrong and should be ignored. However, those laws that prevent you doing something I don't want - those are ok and how dare you trying to circumvent them!

SFC John D. - Lack of enforcement of the immigration laws has gutted the working class. I work in the Construction Industry and I have personally seen the what happens when cheap labor shows up, it replaces those workers that were actually making a living wage. I've worked around hundreds of crews that 95% illegals and in spite of the justification that they show and work harder, they don't. The illegals are just regular guys that goof off when the boss isn't around, get drunk and get thrown in jail, or get in trouble and go back home. Most of them are pretty nice guys, but they cut the wages of another nice guy that has to compete against them.
Now I would much sooner see them enforce from the top down and hit the employers first. The first time some CEO got thrown in jail for six months, those jobs would disappear.

..."What the potential impacts are:

This provision was among the most hotly contested and will likely face strong legal challenges because it's so poorly written, attorney Evelyn Wiese told NPR.

"As someone who has practiced immigration law for many years, I'm not exactly sure what the law means by 'inspected,'" she said.

Wiese noted that the Republican lawmakers failed to define the term in the Florida bill and that it deviates from federal immigration laws. Without clarification, she said, legislators have created a situation that could lead to tens of thousands of people being falsely arrested and possibly detained.

"That's causing a lot of fear for mixed-status families, for mixed-status groups of friends," Wiese added.

The Florida Policy Institute estimates that there are 130,000 U.S. citizens in Florida who are married to undocumented immigrants. It is conceivable that under the law, a U.S.-born spouse traveling from out of state could be charged with a third-degree felony for transporting their husband or wife into Florida. Similarly, farmworkers who travel together or with family could also be charged."
