It sounds like there were too many high ranking officers with big ego's in the Army who wanted the Army to controul the Army Air force. Billy Mitchel was right about the Air force being a separate branch, not under the rule of the Army and this proved true after WW2 when the Air force was established. All branches of the military are equally imporntant and equal, none overshadowes the other. This from an Army grunt.
