Some pilots want the nimble fast fighter jets, some think about the future and fly the big fat cargo haulers and refuelers for a reason.

Many years ago, when I was a cadet at Oregon State University AF ROTC, we had a pilot come down from Portland and talk with our unit. He flew fighters, if I remember correctly, F-15s for the National Guard, and commercial airliners for his full-time employment. He said he had the best of both worlds.
