This could be mitigated, but less than 10% of European homes had air conditioning as of 2016.

We didn’t have it in the UK when I was there for 4 years. And yes, it does get warm in the summer months.

The countries with the highest number of heat-related deaths over the entire summer were Italy (18,010 deaths), Spain (11,324) and Germany (8,173). Previously, the highest heat-related deaths in Europe happened during the summer of 2003 during a major heatwave. Over 70,000 excess deaths were recorded that summer."...
