This is the second time in five years that property owners in Jackson County have seen dramatic leaps in the county’s assessment of their home’s value. One big reason is that more out-of-state investors are purchasing Kansas City homes to flip them or rent them out — shrinking the supply and increasing prices.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel We just had a reassessment of our property. My house property value allegedly doubled in the last five years. Housing here is gone through the roof to where I don't even understand how a young couple could possible afford to buy a home. Of course this is forcing them to rent from these corporations that are sweeping up property here. But that's what these corporations want; for people not to be able to buy but pay into a bottomless pit of rent for the rest of their lives and raise the rent every year stopping them from being able to save for a down payment.
