There are two things going on here that can, and will, destroy our society:
First: Age of consent must be the same for everything, even for mental health services. If it is 14 years old, then it’s 14 years old for drinking and cigarettes. Any fair-minded person can understand the importance of what I’m saying here. Whenever you put an adjective in front of a real issue (in this case “mental health”) you will usually create discrimination, and in this case that’s a bad thing.
Second: It’s an outrage that any medical profession advocates to hide possible mental health issues from responsible family members even if it touches on politically correct issues like LGBTQ+. From the beginning of time everyone recognizes that mental health issues don’t usually get better when information is kept from the responsible family members.
I suppose the biggest issue here is when government and professionals started changing “age of consent” for specific issues instead of making “individual exceptions” as needed in the rare cases when children need to be protected from their parents. They tried to make the issue foolproof, and we all know you can’t make anything foolproof. I believe this was originally done with good intentions, and then the new “age of consent laws” (were laws actually passed or is it just stupid regulation?) were hijacked for politically correct issues like advocating for the advancement of LGBTQ+ items; instead of looking at each individual child and then deciding what is best. It’s not easy but our mental health professionals have really kicked the heck out of the age of consent issue and have gone the wrong way on it.
