"Nearly 900 school districts in the United States currently use a four-day weekly academic schedule. That number rose from 650 districts in 2020 to 876 districts, across 26 states, in 2023. While smaller, rural districts have been more likely to favor the schedule, larger districts are now shortening their school weeks in an effort to recruit and retain teachers. It's a selling point in an era when schools are facing a national teacher shortage."

So, what I'm reading... this all about the teachers. Never mind that it creates a financial hardship on families with children who need to be provided daycare for that third day off.
The article is correct about one thing. Teachers need to be paid more. In addition, they need support from school administration, the community, law enforcement, and MOSTLY from parents. Teachers facing 20-30+ kids all day cannot both educate and discipline. Kids who are major disruptors need to be dealt with. Barring some medical source of the problem, that answer lies with parents.

I already have a BA from UK, but I am not a supporting alumni. It's everything that is wrong with major Universities.
When I moved to Kentucky and join the Kentucky National Guard, I called up UK to enquire about getting a real Engineering degree. I was informed that I had to go back and take ALL my underclassmen courses again. I thought I had misunderstood, but I hadn't, apparently a Degree from UK is only good for 10 years. Being an alumni,, I immediately suspected what we use to call UK Bullshit, so I called Eastern Kentucky University. They would have given me credit for all my UK classes, credit for work experience, and college credit for most of my military Officer and Engineering course. So UK wanted me to start as a Freshman again, EKU would have given me a Construction Management Degree and probably a Military Science Degree for showing up.

I'm 67, not looking for a new career. I still work, but a straight 40, which is about 15 hours a week less than I averaged for the past 30 years and it is 30 minutes from the house. I figure I did my part for ten years training those marginal students from public schools to be soldiers. A surprising number of them were more than average bright given the right incentive and instruction.

CPT Lawrence Cable - Back when I was in the Marines someone bitching didn't do much good. They had to accept the consequences whatever they were. I don't have much to say when it comes to school discipline and what goes on in that department. Administration may occasionally send an e-mail to me asking about student behavior. What they usually do on a expulsion when a parent complains is give the student ten days out of school suspension then they let them return to the alternative school for what they call "reset." Zero tolerance should be just that, zero, and 180 days out should also be 180 but that rarely happens these days.
