Wasn't that at the end of the Talisman Sabre Exercise? Maybe that is why the Chinese and Russians were in the area investigating.

SGT Mary G. I Still remember the Russian "Fishing Trawler" (Spy Ship) Sneaky Peaking Us on Zeto Point. We were tracking them pretty good until they went Completely RF Silent, The Next P-3 Taking Off in the Morning Gave Us the Heads Up. Look Out to Sea! Yeah they Were Pretty Close! Outside 13 Miles but still close.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I don't know about that one, though I seem to have a vague memory of it sounding familiar. Sounds like a story to be told . . .

The mountains of Alaska! Nothing compares. So many are still active volcanoes too. Wonder how long before Russia regretted selling Alaske to the U.S.A.

SGT Mary G. - Yeah Being Next to "Great Sitkin" which is still considered an "Active" Volcano was Bit Uncomfortable! LOL! Little did I Know in 79 that I was Just Getting Prepped for being a Mt Pinatubo Survivor in 91. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQzGjGKdGvQ&t=116s

..."A similar joint exercise took place last September, when the U.S. Coast Guard encountered seven Chinese and Russian ships near Alaska, all in a single formation.

China and Russia have increased their ties amid tensions with the U.S. over Taiwan and Ukraine, making situations like this more alarming.

In a statement, the Chinese embassy said the patrol was part of an annual cooperation plan and "has nothing to do with the current international and regional situations."
