Such rapid deaths from toxic chemical exposure are rare, experts say. The darker side of Dupont, a once-famous chemical firm, has been exposed over time. Although Dupont is well known for its breakthroughs and contributions to a variety of industries, its history is also filled with allegations of cover-ups, health risks, and environmental concerns. But dozens of times in the past two years, a Texas Tribune analysis shows, plants across Texas have reported accidentally releasing gases that can be deadly in relatively small amounts. Dupont has made efforts to address its past mistakes and improve its environmental practices, the legacy of its chemical empire remains tarnished by the hidden dangers and the impact on human health and the environment.
