The ballistic missile submarine USS Alabama’s commanding officer Cmdr. Michael Lyle has been fired, Navy officials said on Monday.
Rear Adm. Nicholas Tilbrook, commander of Submarine Group 9, relieved Lyle of command on Sept. 22 “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command,” a Navy news release says.

Excellent post. Thank You for sharing this shipmate. I think He got fired for being qualified enough to command that submarine. He should've stuck to a shore command instead.

I didn't see anything in his Bio that would have led me to think that he was qualified to run this boat. 3 deterrent patrols? I don't think that he ever should have gotten command, so while it's a blemish on his record, the crew will get a qualified guy to keep them in business.

As a Submariner, that movie was probably one of my least favorite Sub movies. It's a good movie for people who have never qualified on a boat, but it's a universally despised movie in the Submarine community.
