I usually look at line length if they have self checkout. Shortest, with clerk or self, is where I'll go. Self isn't necessarily that fast if a person in front of you has issues, and around here many do.

Perhaps, most have some sort of weight system where bags are and increases in weight that don't correspond with scans set off alarms in some back office. Now the question becomes, is that office manned?
