I saw a news clip, and I'm sorry I don't remember where it was filmed, there are Christmas Tree Farms where you can "Rent" a tree. Its delivered live growing in a Bucket, some folks interviewed said they have rented the same tree several years in a row and the feel like it is an old friend when they bring it into their home.

Lt Col Charlie Brown We don't buy trees any longer but when we did we bought trees with the root so we could transplant them after Christmas.

We've gotten ours via the Trees for Troops event wherever we've been stationed since 2015. Before then we'd buy them from a local volunteer fire department. I figure if you're going to spend money on a tree then do it with an organization like that.
