Vital lessons from two years of all-out war in Ukraine for British Army

LTC Eugene Chu It has now been two years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and a former general has told Forces News how the conflict is teaching the British Army valuable lessons about fighting a modern digital land war.

General Sir Richard Barrons, a former head of Joint Forces Command, said the sheer attrition of the conflict had proven that even with huge amounts of modern technology, any force facing Russia must have scale.

"You need really big concentrations of forces to break through a really coherent defence, such as the one that Russia has built in southern Ukraine," he explained.

Excellent observations. The British, especially, need to take note. Well, the rest of Europe as well. Living under the U.S. umbrella, they took advantage and pared down their forces to nothing. Well, nothing worth considering. Meanwhile, Russia has used the billions they've earned selling fossil fuels to Europe to rebuild their force. Yes, they've wasted most of it on corruption and their forces aren't very well trained or motivated and still, they seem able to prevail, even against better armed and trained forces. Yes, mass is everything.
