The cowboy hats, the oversized belt buckles, the scent of livestock — the Show-Me State Rodeo, which takes over Hale Arena on Saturday and Sunday, looks and smells like a typical rodeo.
But the amateur event, sponsored by the Missouri Gay Rodeo Association, isn’t your average rodeo.

I was stationed in New Mexico in the late 90s. We had the NM State Finals rodeo the week before the gay rodeo finals out there. We said they were behind us so we had to watch out, lol. It was kind of disturbing to see a couple of rodeo cowboys in hats, boots, chaps, etc. walking around holding hands though.
