Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the September 21st edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). The shafts of light framed by the shadows of clouds are called crepuscular rays. From the viewers perspective, they seem to point back to the light source (in this case, the rising sun over a church steeple in Spain). During twilight (sunrise and sunset), crepuscular rays appear orange due to the scattering of shorter wavelength blue and green components of visible light by particles in the atmosphere.
