It's about damn time he was recognized and what was the determining factor for the downgrade? We know what it is. They didn't want to investigate. Shame on the Army for taking 80 years to do this.

My Black Hero has always been Master Sergeant Melvin Hill - a true friend and fellow Special Forces soldier. Melvin was the team leader for the first MACV-SOG, High Altitude Low Opening (HALO), Combat Jump. He was awarded the Silver Star for that HALO jump (28 November 1970).

The first US military combat HALO mission was from 18,000 feet over the jungles of Laos and was comprised six MACSOG members: Staff Sergeant Cliff Newman, Sergeant First Class Sammy Hernandez, and Sergeant First Class Melvin Hill made up three of the six jumpers. The others were two Montagnards and a South Vietnamese Army officer.
