NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed on Monday that North Korean troops have been sent to help Russia in its war against Ukraine, representing the “growing desperation” of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rutte told reporters that increasing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea “is a threat” to Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security… Russia is currently fighting back against a Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region. Unfortunately this bit of escalation is just par for the course for scoundrels stuck in a quagmire. Bad Haircut boy is just looking for any reason to be a player on the world stage. My hope is his run is short and his soldiers die an insignificant death far from home. They already will die for no reason other than they were ordered to go there. They have zero skin in the game.

Neither the Russians nor the North Koreans are bound by normal rules of behavior, the Geneva Convention, etc. Battlefield interrogation for the Russians means filing down prisoners' teeth with a three-cornered file. "Rigorous interrogation" for the Russians means what we call torture. The North Koreans are even more desperate and more inhumane. I worry that Putin, who is seriously ill, will not be willing to wait and possibly die before retaking Ukraine. He might therefore be tempted into using nuclear weapons before passing away.
