APOD: 2024 December 31 – The Twisted Disk of NGC 4753

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for December 31, 2024.
If we could look at our Milky Way galaxy from the side (and from 70 million light years away), it might look like this. NGC 4753 is in the constellation Virgo and was discovered by astronomer William Herschel on February 22, 1784.
One suggested source for the dust lanes twisted about the galactic disk are multiple dwarf galaxies (like our Small and Large Magellanic Clouds) being pulled apart by gravitational forces over time. The results eventually smeared out into the disk we observe today. This marks the first appearance of NGC 4753 in the APOD archives.

I Was Watching A History Program, Just Last Night And A Former
Employee Of Area 51 Stated, While He Was Employed At Area 51,
They Were Actually Produced A Small "Worm Hole"; A Situation
Which Makes Travel From One Planet To Another, Even A Different Universe,
Instantaneously. He Further Stated "It's In Further Development", As The Worm Hole
Could Only Maintained For A Few Seconds. But In The Future Could Expand The Human
Race To Other Planets Throughout The Universe And Beyond .
