Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for January 15, 2025.
An occultation is an event that occurs when one object is hidden from the observer by another object that passes between them. A Mars - Moon occultation occurred two nights ago (January 13th), and this was the view outside of Chicago, Illinois. Did the weather prevent you from seeing this? If so, you'll get another chance soon...the next similar Mars - Moon event is February 9th. Cheers.
