John, how did you term it on another post? Typical tabloid journalism.

As I usually suggest to members - research the information yourself, especially if you have an emotional reaction to a story.

A simple search of DVIDS showed that the writer is either woefully lacking on research skills or suspends those skills when it comes to a partisan ideology he wants to push*.

● etc.

Maybe, just maybe, in his attempt to rush a preconceived narrative, Mr. Beynon did the absolute rookie mistake of misspelling her last name and that's why he couldn't find anything for CPT Griest (not Giest as the article states). I would expect any responsible journalist to do research using multiple ways the information could be found, such as looking for her fellow female Ranger class graduate, 1LT Shaye Haver (CPT Griest and 1LT Haver were the first females to graduate from Ranger School), or the class they were in (08-15) at Ranger School.

As to the "OCPA memo", I could find no trace of it in ALARACTS, HQDA Policy Notices, DA Memorandums, Army General Orders, or Army Directives (AD2025-01* from January is the last related to the claims made by the writer). There is the recently released (26 February) memo* from the Defense Media Activity (DMA) that would have covered DVIDS (DVIDS is a DoD asset and falls under DMA, not OCPA), which outlines a media review, but nothing recently released by OCPA.

Maybe this "official memo" was from one of those nameless individuals that partisans often quote.

* Looking at the twitter/X feed for Mr. Beynon (https://x.com/StevenBeynon), he covers many 'neutral' stories from across DoD, but when it comes to a political ideology, he clearly is partisan and pushes partisan talking points and/or is biased in which individuals have negative articles and which have positive ones.

Sgt (Join to see) You are so right. Since the inauguration every day has been like a festival so I for one have let my guard down.

COL (Join to see) - *chuckle* ... The writer of the article, who by all accounts* should be extremely familiar with DVIDS, stated definitively that "Kristen Geist .. has been erased from .. its publicly accessible media database, the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service, or DVIDS".

Your response was that DVIDS is pretty obscure to the general public but insiders like us (and the writer) can find it ... which begs the question, why didn't you verify it first? You just called out another member for posting things that they didn't verify which is why I decided to check the particulars of the story.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as the partisans on the left and right abide by RallyPoint's TOS and SOCs, they can spout whatever talking point they want at each other (some are actually accurate).

However, the moral outrage they show is as funny as it is hypocritical.

LTC Stephen Conway - For some, but accurate in others. Bottom line is that you shouldn't believe or disbelieve something without knowing the biases of those involved.

I mostly trust (but will still verify) Mr. Beynon when it comes to reporting regarding DoD and the services if there's no political component involved, but if there are politics/political figures involved, I know where his biases lie.

I posted this picture here years ago. I think the secretary can accomplish many positive corrections however this young lady is responsible for many young soldiers living even today. So I wouldn't be able to not treat her with much deserved Respect and Dignity.

Agreed. Now do you want her carrying the mortar rounds for your foot mobile 81mm mortar section through mountainous terrain, through deep snow during extended combat operations?

CPL Douglas Chrysler - Before they reduced the standard for women and older men, 44% of women could not pass the six-part Army Combat Fitness test, men 7%.

If it meant your mortar section had 4 more 81mm rounds, 800 more 5.56 ammunition rounds, covered the daily movement in 15%-20% less time and spent less time exposed in the open, with a male in the position; is she your first choice?

Maj John Bell I wasn't aware they reduced the standard. It should be the same for everyone. If they can't do it the DOD could look at combat support positions like Israel has. Of course not everyone is going to want Infantry.
You're right sometimes machines could only get us so far and we double timed to our position carrying everything, and I took my turn on all the heavy stuff. I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Mr. Beynon's prior military service in Afghanistan, coupled with his acknowledged efforts to uncover scams targeting veterans, indicates a dedication to the well-being of service members rather than an adherence to a particular ideology. However, an article lacks credibility when its assertions are based on anonymous sources. The implication of a substantial number, specifically nine individuals, providing anonymous information does not reflect favorably on the author, although it may contribute to increased readership, thereby satisfying personal ambitions.
